Gary Huffman
Gary Huffman built and drove his first mini-stock back in 1988. He was in the United States Army at the time and had opportunities to race all over the country. After five years of racing, he then turned his focus to Crew Chief duties and building race cars.
Huffman experienced early success as a Crew Chief, wining four Asphalt Modified Championships. His next military assignment allowed him the ability to Crew Chief and build cars in evenings and on weekends, a four-year stint that resulted in three dirt track Championships (1 Wing Modified & 2 Late Models). He was then transferred to Oklahoma where he aligned himself with a new team and amassed 15 in 2 years on the local dirt tracks.
In 1999, Huffman retired from the Army, a move that gave way for an opportunity to assume duties as Crew Chief for a NASCAR Bush Grand National team. After 5 races the team failed to retain sponsorship for the 2000 season, but soon took over duties as Crew Chief for the NASCAR Goody's Dash team and had three short track wins.
In 2001 he made a move to Calico Coatings to Crew Chief their NASCAR Late Model at Hickory Motor Speedway. He continues to oversee Calico's Late Model program as well as their two USAC Ford Focus Midgets and has won seven races, finished 2nd in the regional point standing twice and won a National Championship in 2005. He was also named the USAC "Mechanic of the Year" in 2005.
He resides in Hickory, North Carolina with his wife, Karen.
