SEMI-FINALS OF "THE ALL-AMERICAN DRIVER CHALLENGE" TO BE HELD AT ANDRETTI INDOOR KARTING & GAMES IN ATLANTA ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4-5TH.
DENVER, NC (1/19/2006) - On Saturday, February 4th and Sunday, February 5th, 104 Challengers from across the country will be competing in the semi-finals of The All-American Driver Challenge (AADC) at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games (AIK&G) in Atlanta.
These talented young men and women will be traveling from as far as Los Angeles and Miami to spend two days at AIK&G proving they have what it takes to be the next All-American Driver. All Challengers will be judged in several areas, including: Driving Talent, Communication Skills, Media Presence and Physical Fitness/Personal Character.
The schedule of events are as follows:
Saturday (Race Competition Part 1):
- 7 a.m. - Driver's Meeting - rules of the competition will be explained and judges as well as key members of the AADC organization will be introduced.
- 8 a.m. - First round of the semi-final competition consisting of 20-minute races on the road course, immediately followed by a qualifying lap that will determine position during the first set of races on the oval course.
- 1-7 p.m.- individual interviews of all Challengers conducted by a panel of AADC judges.
- 7-10 p.m. - Two rounds of heat races on the oval track. These will be eight person races consisting of 50 laps each. During these races, the Challengers will be judged on passing and finishing position and each Challenger will run two heats before the end of the evening.
Sunday (Race Competition Part 2):
- 8-11 a.m. - Third round of heat races on the oval track
- Noon-2 p.m. - Final round of heat races on the oval track
Drivers began qualifying for the AADC on July 1, 2005, competing for a fully paid contract to drive in the 2006 Carolina/Virginia USAC Midget Series. Open qualifying was held at go karting facilities around the country and ended on December 15th. Challengers were asked to submit their top 100 laps with the top 10 Challengers from each of the 10 regions advancing to the semi-final round.
The winner of the AADC will also receive a three-day racing school at the Derek Daly Performance Racing Academy in Las Vegas courtesy of www.Racingschools.com, the world's largest single source of auto racing school information.
The AADC is a driver development and search program that is geared toward fostering the best up-and-coming talent for a future career in a professional American racing series. All aspiring racecar drivers between the ages of 15 and 26 were invited to enter the AADC and earn their way to becoming the next American racing hero.
